After finishing ‘It happened to us’, I picked up ‘Beautiful Midnight’ yesterday afternoon and finished it this morning. I didn’t think it would top the story of Mathieu and Lori-Anne; I was expecting a much less developed story. I have no idea why, other than some vague notion that it would be hard to produce two equally powerful stories about completely different characters, and surely, ‘It happened to us’ must have been this author’s masterpiece? Silly nonsense and deluded reasoning… ‘Beautiful Midnight’ is every bit as captivating, leaving you deeply touched. François Houle is a master of creating characters and telling their stories. I’m generally a fantasy fanatic, but the non-fantasy genre shelf of my library has just taken pride of place and is waiting for his next book…

Beautiful Midnight – This is my first read by this author and I loved it. A beautiful story that is heartwarming and heartbreaking on so many levels. The storylines are told through the past and the present. There’s a variety of characters that range from likable to lovable to despicable, and their lives are realistically portrayed.
The depth of the story is enhanced by the courage, determination, loss, suffering, love, abandonment, fears and the journeys traveled. The emotions run the gamut from happiness to tears.
The above along with the vivid descriptions that clearly immerses the reader in the story and makes it difficult to stop reading. This well written book is better edited than usual for nowadays with only a few minor corrections needed, which do not distract from the story. I contacted the author to review his books.

Oh my gosh. This book was so emotional, it smacked me sideways and had me crying at two in the morning as i rushed to finish it. Told in various POV’s but so clear that the reader sees everyone and feels everyone motives and their experiences. Midnight was a brilliant character and the way that this book dealt with her previous battles with cancer and possible future one was very good. Loved it and would highly recommend to all my friends.
