I normally read fantasy genre novels… dragons, telepathy, even steampunk; my library is full of these types of books. But from time to time I like a change, so I pick up something different. And very, very occasionally, I am completely enthralled when I do. I finished this book in a day. Simply could not put it down. There are no dragons, but the characters could not be more real; their joys and struggles could not be more vivid. What I look for most, no matter what the genre, is the story of the characters — what motivates them, what worries them, what brings them together or drives them apart. This is quite simply one of the most powerful books I have ever had the privilege to read.

What happens to a happily married couple when a family tragedy hits them? In this nicely written and true to life novel, a husband and wife have opposite reactions and methods of coping so that, at a time when they need each other most, they are torn apart. I was attracted to this story because I know two couples to whom this actually happened. I sympathised with the main characters and read the book quickly as I found I wanted to know what became of them.

Loved this book. As I live in Ottawa was nice to read a book that took place here, knew the places mentioned. Really enjoyed the story, very emotional, do not want to say too much as don’t want to spoil the story for anyone else. Highly recommend you read the next two next two books We Became Us and Broken Hearts as well as they really add to the story and you can get them free.
