This is not my usual genre, but I’m glad I decided to give it a try. The characters are well written, dropping the reader into a snapshot of their family life with squabbles, domestic fallout and unrequited teenage love thrown into the mix.
It’s an involving read, pick it up and you won’t realise how easily you’ve gotten into it until you reach the end.

What happens to a happily married couple when a family tragedy hits them? In this nicely written and true to life novel, a husband and wife have opposite reactions and methods of coping so that, at a time when they need each other most, they are torn apart. I was attracted to this story because I know two couples to whom this actually happened. I sympathised with the main characters and read the book quickly as I found I wanted to know what became of them.

Beautiful Midnight edited manuscript

I received the edited copy of my novel Beautiful Midnight from my editor EJ Clarke a couple weeks ago and I was blown away. First off, the Editorial & Theme review was incredible. He summarized (a sentence or two) each scene of each chapter. And then he pointed out sections that were good and others that could be improved. He also noticed a few unfinished subplots and made some suggestions on tidying those up.

Yeah, I was impressed.

And then I went though the line edit of my manuscript and I thought I had a fairly clean copy but he found plenty of typos and grammar errors. And he once again left comments when he read something he really liked, or if something contradicted something else, or if something didn’t quite fit.

EJ provided me with the best feedback I’ve ever received, and although I now have a bit of work to do, I know that if I can follow his suggestions that my novel will be that much better.

And in the end, that’s what my readers deserve.

So, Beautiful Midnight might not be ready as early in 2018 as I’d first planned, but I believe the delay will be worth it.
